Faster, more dependable Mac and Windows apps

The Bird Journal desktop app with a swift darting past, suggesting speed

We’ve just rolled out fresh updates to the Mac and Windows apps, and while there’s nothing new to learn, you should notice the app feels lighter on its feet — particularly on the Mac.

Snappier all round

We’ve streamlined the way the app works behind the scenes, taking out a step that used to sit between you and everything you did. The upshot is an app that responds the moment you ask it to — opening a record, scrolling through your sightings or moving around the map all feel that bit more immediate.

It’s the kind of change you don’t really see but you do feel — and you should notice it most on the Mac, where there was the most to gain.

Updates that just work

The same work also clears up an occasional gremlin in the update process. Every now and then an update wouldn’t apply quite cleanly, which could occasionally trip the app up.

That’s now behind us — updates install smoothly and reliably. We’ve also added a friendly “Restart now” button when a new version is ready, so you’re back up and running with a single click.

Nothing for you to do

Both apps update themselves, so you’ll pick this up automatically — there’s nothing to download by hand. If you’d like to check, you’ll be on Mac 5.16.1 or Windows 5.13.2 (or later) once it’s landed.

As always, thank you for using Bird Journal — and do let us know how the apps feel for you. There’s more on the way.
